Milan, 15 September 2022From 14 September to 2 October, the Consortium for the Protection of Nano Vialone Veronese PGI Rice will participate in the Rice Fair hosted in Isola della Scala, now in its 54th edition, which this year will bring together exhibitors from only from all over the peninsula but also from abroad.

The Consortium for the Protection of Nano Vialone Veronese PGI Rice will be present with an institutional stand within the Borgo del riso exhibition area where visitors and enthusiasts will be able not only to receive all the information concerning this extraordinary European brand product but also to taste the products of the members of the Consortium.

This participation is part of the broader European campaign “LIFE – LOVE ICONIC FOOD OF EUROPE”, which aims to promote and encourage the dissemination and knowledge on the Italian, German and Czech Republic markets of certified products and with high quality and food safety standards as well as strongly representative of the territory of origin and production. In addition to the Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice, the other protagonists of the campaign are some of the flagships of Made in Italy such as the wines protected by the Valpolicella Consortium, including Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, Valpolicella Classico DOC, Valpolicella Ripasso DOC and Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG, Asiago PDO cheese, Garda PDO extra virgin olive oil, Tergeste PDO extra virgin olive oil, Veneto PDO extra virgin olive oil and all varieties protected by the Oil Producers Association Verona.

The program of the fair includes tasting events, competitions, dinners and conferences. Furthermore, during the fair, it will be possible to visit the Rice Exhibition set up by the Ente Risi. The experiential and sensorial exhibition was located in the Borgo del Riso area, in the entrance hall to the fair, and was structured to immerse visitors in the fascinating world of rice. Through 3D viewers, in fact, it will be possible to “enter” a rice field, finding yourself with “feet in the water” and “visiting” an agricultural farmhouse. This virtual journey will be guided by Patrizio Roversi, a well-known face of Italian television, who will accompany visitors to discover all stages of rice cultivation, from sowing to harvesting, the processing stages of the raw material and

of many other curiosities, for example the functioning of the canals that feed the rice fields. The exhibition is a space to be experienced with all five senses. For the little ones there are also playful and interactive activities.

THE PGI PROTECTION CONSORTIUM VIALONE NANO RICE

Consortium for the Protection of Nano Vialone Veronese PGI Rice was created with the aim of bringing together producers committed to compliance with the production specification of the same name approved and registered by the European Community. The Protected Geographical Indication “Riso Nano Vialone Veronese” refers only to rice obtained from rigorously selected seeds of the japonica species of the Vialone Nano variety. It requires that cultivation be practiced on land left to “rest” with the rotation of the crops. The fight against parasites is entrusted to good cultivation techniques which include, among other things, special tillage of the land and careful regulation of the water in the rice fields. The fertilizations, balanced with the contribution of organic matter, must aim at the production of healthy and mature grain and the maximum productions per hectare must not exceed 70 quintals. Precise varietal characteristics and rigorous production parameters guarantee the genuineness, fragrance and excellent gastronomic performance of the Nano Vialone Veronese rice, protected by the European PGI brand since 1996.
