Amarone della Valpolicella: the harmony of festivities in a glass.

ITALY

What Christmas would be without a good toast? We suggest you do so with a wine that is unique in the world: Amarone della Valpolicella, a European wine excellence that originates in an equally unique land, the Valpolicella.

It is the green countryside that embraces the city of Verona: hectares and hectares of indigenous vines – of Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone – that parade among gentle hills and plains as far as the eye can see, under the gaze of distant mountains peeping out of the blue.

“Valpolicella is the first red wine PDO in Veneto and among the most important in Italy. – explains Matteo Tedeschi, Director of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella – To date, 8600 hectares of vineyards are claimed as Valpolicella and more than 67 million bottles of the appellations (Valpolicella, Amarone, Recioto and Valpolicella Ripasso) will be produced in 2022. What makes this wine so popular is certainly its great ability to be a trusted ally at the table, capable of enhancing many dishes with extreme versatility.”

Amarone is one of the best known and best loved red wines in the world, a true ambassador of European quality. The secret of its elegance, complexity and structured taste lies in the technique of appassimento, a very ancient practice that consists of leaving the grapes to rest on traditional “Arele” or in modern crates, inside so-called “fruttai”. It is a long resting period of 100-120 days, during which the grapes concentrate their sugars to give Amarone its unique character.

Hence its intense red colour, which already anticipates its complexity. Hence its enveloping aromas of ripe red fruits, hints of sweet spices and light nuances of chocolate. Hence its fullness of flavour, with noble tannins and an aromatic persistence that entices with every sip.

Hence, this wine masterpiece becomes the undisputed star of Christmas tables, perfectly combining gastronomic tradition with the elegance of a unique wine.
