Vialone Nano Veronese PGI rice fuels solidarity. One tonne of rice donated for the Vatican’s soup kitchen.

ITALY

Solidarity is one of Europe’s core values. Something that the more it is cultivated, the more society flourishes, to the benefit of all. This was demonstrated on 1 September 2023 by the Consortium Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice, which donated a tonne of rice for the Vatican’s soup kitchen.

Personally handing over this precious cargo to Pope Francis was a delegation from Isola della Scala, made up of Roberto Venturi, sole director of Ente Fiera, the mayor Luigi Mirandola, the president of the Consortium for the Protection of Nano Vialone Veronese PGI Rice , Renato Leoni, Don Maurizio Viviani, parish priest of San Zeno in Verona, and the artist Guido Rainaldi, who wished to donate to the Pontiff the work ‘Misericordia’ already presented at the 2018 Rice Fair.

On this occasion, Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice was cooked and served to the poor by the Sisters of Mother Teresa. The recipe of the day? Risotto all’Isolana, a nutritious first course that represents the traditions of Isola della Scala: a generous land, home of European excellence that nurtures unique values.
