Valpolicella Wines, European Quality Due with Aida in the Arena. Starting from June 17 Amarone Opera Prima

The event, promoted by the Consorzio Vini Valpolicella, is part of the European campaign “LIFE – LOVE ICONIC FOOD OF EUROPE” which has the primary objective of promoting the dissemination and awareness in Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic of European PDO and PGI qualities

Milan, 15 June 2022 – Countdown to “Amarone Opera Prima”, the extraordinary and off-season event of the Consorzio Vini Valpolicella scheduled in Verona from 17 to 20 June. A special occasion that challenges the taboo of the summer calendar to present the 2017 vintage outside the traditional location of the Preview in February, also staging the partnership between the two symbols of the city of Verona in the world: the Arena and the Amarone. Over 100 accredited journalists of which 80% from abroad and 40 cellars ready to uncork on the notes of the triumphal march of Aida.

The event is part of the initiatives and activities envisaged by the European campaign with the claim “LIFE – LOVE ICONIC FOOD OF EUROPE” which aims to encourage the dissemination and knowledge of certified products on the Italian, German and Czech Republic markets and with high quality and food safety standards as well as strongly representative of the territory of origin and production. In addition to the wines protected by the Valpolicella Consortium such as Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, Valpolicella Classico DOC, Valpolicella Ripasso DOC and Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG, the other protagonists of the campaign are some of the flagships of Made in Italy such as Asiago PDO cheese, Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice, Garda PDO extra virgin olive oil, Tergeste PDO extra virgin olive oil and Veneto PDO extra virgin olive oil, all varieties protected by the Verona Oil Producers Association. The communication actions will have consumers as their main target through mainly digital communication and storytelling activities and professionals in the horeca and trade sector through meetings, workshops and tastings.

After the gala dinner on June 17 at Giardino Giusti reserved for the press (by invitation only), the Amarone Opera Prima program opens on June 18 with two masterclasses at Palazzo Verità Poeta (Vicolo San Silvestro, 6), to discover the versatility of grande Rosso and the top vintages that have contributed to its positioning in over 80 countries around the globe.
It starts at 11.30 with “Amarone 4wd, off the beaten track: different styles of Amarone combined with haute cuisine dishes from various countries of the world”, in collaboration with La Peca, the two Michelin star restaurant in Lonigo (Vi) and the narration by the food critic and wine expert, Davide Scapin. It then continues at 15.00, with the session “The boom generation: the last decades of Amarone from its escalation to global success”, conducted by JC Viens, Italian wine ambassador and Wset educator. For the national and international press from 20 countries – from the USA to the Arab Emirates, from South Korea to Canada to Israel, Singapore and the main European markets – the day ends in the Arena to watch Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, the symbolic work of the Roman amphitheater under the stars since its first edition in 1913.

Sunday 19 June, Amarone Opera Prima moves to the Palazzo della Gran Guardia (Piazza Bra), for the tasting of Amarone 2017 (from 10 to 17 for the specialized press; company stalls open from 12.30 and from 16.30 to 20.00 entrance also allowed to wine lovers and operators) and for the press conference on the state of health of the denomination and the focus on “Amarone and the myths of Venetian hospitality, between history and legend” (from 11 am). Monday 20 June, the last day of Amarone Opera Prima, the event is open to the public and operators from 10.00 to 20.00.
