The Asiago Plateau: delights for the eyes and palate.

It is still considered a niche destination, but the Asiago Plateau has everything to delight mountain sports enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. The northern Italian destination not only offers a wealth of hiking and mountain biking trails, but is also the home of origin of Asiago cheese. It is the centrepiece of the local cuisine, making a stop at one of the many mountain huts along the way particularly delicious.

Asiago, Enego, Foza, Gallio, Lusiana, Roana, Rotzo and Conco. Together they form the ‘Seven Municipalities’: a linguistic island of Germanic Cimbrian cultural origin and historical significance on the one hand, and a tourist destination characterised by the beauty of the surrounding Alpine ridges on the other. The best way to discover the landscape, villages and picturesque towns is on foot or by bicycle.

A multitude of routes of varying degrees of difficulty open up the Plateau and the surrounding mountain landscape to hikers and mountain professionals, attract pedal cyclists and offer both easy and challenging trails for mountain bikers.

But it is not only the breathtaking landscape that makes a trip to the Sette Comuni worthwhile this summer: in the home of Asiago PDO, pleasure is also a top priority. In the mountain huts, the traditional ‘malghe’, you can taste the best products of the valley and immerse yourself in the great culinary tradition of the region. Whether it is a simple snack with fresh Asiago PDO Fresh, homemade salami, mountain honey and pickled vegetables, or traditional, soul-warming dishes based on the region’s seasonal produce, such as special Rotzo potatoes, Asiago strawberries or fresh wild mushrooms. One thing is certain: hiking in the mountains has never been as delicious as it is this summer!

With Asiago PDO, from Fresh, known for its sweet and delicate flavour of freshly milked milk, to Stagionato, naturally lactose-free and preservative-free, produced with semi-skimmed milk in different refinements (Mezzano, Vecchio and Stravecchio), one can enjoy the sweet life and holiday atmosphere south of the Alps.

The Consorzio Tutela Formaggio Asiago joins the project ‘That’s Amore. European Lifestyle: Taste Wonderfood” which celebrates the love for European quality products, for excellence of certain origin, for raw materials processed in a respectful and transparent way.

A project that puts in place many initiatives, workshops and events throughout Europe to make citizens and operators in the sector about the certified quality of Asiago PDO cheese, Valpolicella Wines,  Nano Vialone Veronese PGI Rice and Veneto PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
