Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice for Pope Francis’ lunch in Verona

ITALY

On 18 May 2024, Pope Francis visited the Montorio Prison in Verona, where he had lunch with inmates.

The lands of Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice welcomed the Holy Father with the preparation of two traditional first courses: the famous risotto all’isolana, a typical dish of the Verona area, followed by a spring classic, risotto with asparagus.

For the occasion, the Consortium for the protection of Nano Vialone Veronese PGI rice brought together a delegation of four master risotto makers who prepared no less than 70 kilos of the famous IGP rice for a total of 700 diners.

A day dedicated to Veronese culinary tradition, the quality of the territory’s PGI products, and above all social inclusion and sharing.
